Threads

Publish to Threads — Meta's text-first companion to Instagram — through a one-click OAuth flow. Text posts, single-image posts, video posts, and carousels (up to 20 items) all work. Threads uses its own API surface separate from Facebook and Instagram, so it gets its own card in Settings.

Before you start

  • A Threads account. Threads accounts are created from an existing Instagram account in the Threads app — there's no separate sign-up.
  • You should be signed into the Threads account you want myHERALD to post as in the same browser before clicking Connect.

Connect it

  1. Open Settings → Integrations and find the Threads card.
  2. Click Connect. Threads' authorization screen opens in a new tab.
  3. Approve the publishing and content permissions for your Threads account.
  4. You'll return to myHERALD with the card showing a Connected badge and your Threads handle (@username).

What you can do

  • Text posts up to 500 characters — Threads' native limit. myHERALD blocks drafts that exceed this before they reach the API.
  • Single-image posts.
  • Single-video posts.
  • Carousels with 2–20 items, mixing images and videos.
  • Schedule through myHERALD's queue down to the minute.

How tokens are refreshed

Threads issues 60-day long-lived tokens. myHERALD auto-refreshes when the token is within 7 days of expiry — no action needed on your side. If you change your Instagram password or revoke the app, the token invalidates and the card shows a Reconnect banner.

Troubleshooting

"Thread exceeds 500 characters" error. Threads strictly enforces a 500-character limit. Shorten the draft, or split it into a thread (multi-post sequence support is on the roadmap — for now each Thread is a standalone post).

Video processing failed. Threads needs up to 60 seconds to process video. myHERALD polls automatically; if it times out, re-encode the video (H.264 MP4 recommended, max 1GB) and retry from the Kanban card.

Token expired (red dot on the card). Auto-refresh failed — typically because the underlying Instagram account password changed or you revoked the app. Click the Reconnect banner to run OAuth again. No scheduled drafts are lost.

Disconnect

Open the kebab menu on the Threads card and pick Disconnect. myHERALD revokes its token and stops publishing. To remove access from Meta's side, also visit threads.net → Settings → Account → Apps and Websites and remove myHERALD there.
